Allie Shannon, a registered nurse with Fort Riley's Army Public Health Nursing, is preparing the COVID-19 immunization for her 10-year-old son Keanu, Nov. 17.
Lori Harris, also a registered nurse with Army Public Health Nursing at Fort Riley took care of the record keeping. Keanu was the first child at Fort Riley to receive the newly approved child dose.
The Federal Drug Administration gave the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine emergency authorization to use in children ages 5 to 15 years old and full approval to use in people ages 16 years and older on Oct. 29.
