Serving as part of the 101st Airborne Division’s 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment on the battalion’s “Combat Maintenance” team during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm in 1990 and 1991, Steve Rice would finish his Army service after a total 18 years, taking an Army offered early retirement as a staff sergeant. Less than a year later he would start his second career as an Army civilian employee. His “Combat Maintenance” team in Desert Storm was dubbed so by his battalion command sergeant major at the time.
