Sutton concluded his 24-year military career on September 10, 2021 in a formal ceremony held in the Pentagon's Hall of Heroes in Arlington, Virginia. The Army's Deputy Chief of Staff, G-6 Lt. Gen. John B. Morrison, Jr. officiated at the ceremony with limited attendees due to coronavirus preventive measures. Lt. Col. Sutton grew up in Darlington, S.C., served initially as an enlisted Soldier, was a commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at Campbell University.
