Maj. Gen. Douglas A. Sims II, commanding general of 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley, and Command Sgt. Maj. Raymond S. Harris of 1st Infantry Division receive a mission briefing Oct. 5, 2021 from U.S. Army Sgt. Mason Kaufmann, assigned to the 1st Sustainment Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), Pa. The 1st Sustainment Brigade is providing reception, staging, and onward movement support for passengers at PHL. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
