    133rd Airlift Wing

U.S. Air Force Airmen from the 133rd Airlift Wing were recognized during the third quarter of the Minnesota Vikings home opener game in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Sept. 26, 2021. The Airmen made up the crew from the C-130 Hercules flyover, commemorating the historic flight conducted by U.S. Army Gen. Walter Rhinow, Lt. Col. William C. Garis, and Capt. Ray S. Miller on Sept. 26, 1920. The three men flow from Curtiss Field in Falcon Heights, Minnesota, to Washington D.C. The success of the trip ultimately led to the establishment of the 109th Observation Squadron, the first federally recognized Air National Guard unit in the nation. The 109th Airlift Squadron, the descendent unit of the 109th Observation Squadron, still exists today at the 133rd Airlift Wing in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
