Operation Allies Welcome - Operation Allies Refuge

Sgt. Brandon Harris, a human intelligence collector with 163rd Military Intelligence Battalion, 504th Military Intelligence Expeditionary Brigade out of Fort Hood, Texas, hands out pencils to children attending the language and education class at Fort Bliss’ Doña Ana Complex in New Mexico, Sept. 24, 2021. Harris serves as a translator in support of Operation Allies Welcome and helps teach classes on the alphabet, numbers, and basic manners to Afghan children in order to prepare them for the American education system. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible. This initiative provides Afghan personnel essential support at secure locations outside Afghanistan. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Christina Westover, 24th Theater Public Affairs Support Element)
