Rev. Kirby Verret, a member of the Houma Nation, stands in front of Clanton Chapel United Methodist Church in the small fishing town of Dulac, Louisiana, Sept. 15, 2021. The church has weathered many storms and environmental disasters. The church was established in the 1880s, and the first chapel was built in 1935. It is the only Native American Methodist Church congregation in Louisiana. It is an anchor for this community that is ground zero for the harsh reality of the devastating effects of climate change.
