A nighttime military artillery firing exercise captured with a long-exposure photograph, showing a howitzer or similar artillery piece being fired under a camouflage netting. The scene is dramatically illuminated by red ambient lighting and the muzzle flash, with a tracer round arc visible as a glowing red streak across the frame. Multiple personnel are visible operating the weapon system in what appears to be a prepared firing position.

U.S. Marines with 3d Battalion, 12th Marines, 3d Marine Division, fire a M777A2 Howitzer during Artillery Relocation Training Program 21.2 at Ojojihara Maneuver Area, Japan, July 20, 2021. This training contributes to the defense of Japan and the U.S.-Japan Alliance as the cornerstone of peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region. ARTP provides realistic, live-fire training opportunities to the only permanently forward-deployed artillery unit in the Marine Corps, enabling them to provide precision indirect fires from a distributed environment in support of maritime operations.
