The image shows a large-caliber artillery or tank gun barrel photographed from below against a partly cloudy sky. A camouflage net is draped overhead, partially obscuring the upper portion of the frame. Smoke or propellant gases are visible near the muzzle brake, suggesting the weapon has recently been or is in the process of firing.

U.S. Marines with 3d Battalion, 12th Marines, 3d Marine Division, fire a M777A2 Howitzer during Artillery Relocation Training Program 21.2 at Ojojihara Maneuver Area, Japan, July 20, 2021. This training contributes to the defense of Japan and the U.S.-Japan Alliance as the cornerstone of peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region. ARTP provides realistic, live-fire training opportunities to the only permanently forward-deployed artillery unit in the Marine Corps, enabling them to provide precision indirect fires from a distributed environment in support of maritime operations.
