A Marine with 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, pays his respects to Lance Cpl. Joshua E. Witsman’s battle cross during a memorial service hosted by the battalion at the Camp San Mateo helicopter landing zone here, Sept. 28, 2012. Witsman, a native of Danville, Ill., was honored during the service, along with Sgt. Wade D. Wilson, from Webster, Texas, and Cpls. Alex Martinez, a native of Elgin, Ill., and Anthony R. Servin, from Riverside, Calif. Wilson, Martinez, Servin and Witsman all gave their lives to protect their country and fellow Marines during Operation Enduring Freedom. During his deployment, Witsman provided to be an invaluable asset to his platoon, due to a previous deployment with 3rd Bn., 5th Mar.
