Colonel Roger B. Turner, the commanding officer of 5th Marine Regiment, and Sgt. Maj. Alberto Ruiz, the 5th Marines sergeant major, pay their respects to fallen Marine’s battle crosses during a memorial service hosted by the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, at the Camp San Mateo helicopter landing zone here, Sept. 28, 2012. The battalion, which recently returned from a seven month deployment from Afghanistan, honored Sgt. Wade D. Wilson, from Webster, Texas, Cpls. Alex Martinez, a native of Elgin, Ill., and Anthony R. Servin, from Riverside, Calif., and Lance Cpl. Joshua E. Witsman, a native of Danville, Ill. Wilson, Martinez, Servin and Witsman all gave their lives to protect their country and fellow Marines during Operation Enduring Freedom.
