Alexis Shumate, daughter of Sgt. 1st Class Wavie Shumate, who was assigned to Task Force Thunder, 5th Armored Brigade, First Army Division West, hugs a Soldier with 5th Armored Brigade during a dedication of Camp McGregor’s Mayor Cell in memory of Shumate at McGregor Camp, N.M., June 29, 2021. The ceremony was to honor the life and service of Shumate who was known to be an outstanding and passionate Soldier. About two years ago, Shumate died after a car accident which happened when he was leaving Camp McGregor during lunch. He is survived by his wife, Tanya, and daughter, Alexis.
