Marines, Sailors learn how to get ready for a raid

U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Karissa Jones, an MV-22 Osprey crew chief with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 164 (Reinforced), 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, instructs how a Life Preserver Unit is worn and how it functions to Marines with Battalion Landing team 1/4, 15th MEU, during raid rehearsals aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) Oct. 8, 2020 in the Pacific Ocean. A raid has many moving parts; it is important to practice every step, Marines and sailors practiced getting ready and organized in squads in the hanger bay of the Makin Island. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and 15th MEU provide numbered fleet and combatant commanders with a responsive, flexible and forward-deployed asset capable of maritime power projection, contingency operations and crisis response.
