U.S. Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Ryan P. Heritage, Commanding General of Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, provides remarks after presenting SSgt. Amber Staroscik, a senior drill instructor with Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, with a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal and SSgt. Carmen MedinaPonce, a drill instructor with Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, with a Navy Achievement Medal for their hard work and distinguished acts during their time on a second tour as female drill instructors at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego on May 6, 2021. Staroscik and MedinaPonce volunteered to come to MCRD San Diego for their second tour of being drill instructors in order to support the Marine Corps during these past few months of history with the first platoon of females training at the depot in San Diego.
