U.S. Army Spc. Keonte Anthony, a Gary, Indiana native and truck driver assigned to the 1438th Transportation Company stationed in Elkhart, Indiana, watches over community members in the observation area after their COVID-19 vaccine at the state-led, federally-supported Community Vaccination Center (CVC) at the former Roosevelt High School in Gary, Indiana, May 8, 2021. Anthony is part of a group of U.S. Army National Guard personnel from around the state of Indiana that are supporting the vaccination efforts. The U.S. Army National Guard, along with U.S. Air Force, FEMA, and Indiana state representatives have worked together to vaccinate more than 40,000 community members. This means a lot to Anthony, since it is benefitting his hometown and the people he knew growing up. U.S. Northern Command, through U.S. Army North, remains committed to providing continued, flexible Department of Defense support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as part of the whole-of-government response to COVID-19.
