Each participant carried at least 35 pounds, including canned goods that were donated to local food pantries. The road march honors the approximately 75,000 Filipino and American troops on the Bataan Peninsula in the Philippines who were forced to march 65 miles to prison camps following the April 9, 1942, U.S. surrender of the Bataan Peninsula during WWII.
