Meet OS2 Eric Rand! Petty Officer Rand is an #OperationsSpecialist from #Williamstown #NewJersey
Rand joined the @usnavy at 18 years old. He didn’t have plans for college at the time and felt that serving was the best choice for him.
“I definitely didn’t regret it. I just don’t like being in debt, that’s one reason for it. Now my college is paid for.”
OS2 has #deployed on #USSWasp and #USSIwoJima as a member of an air control squadron, tracking friendly and unfriendly aircraft in the vicinity of #American warships. Now he trains #recruits as a #RecruitDivisionCommander
“It’s rewarding seeing people come from different parts of the world and seeing them develop into Sailors.”
Rand never saw himself in a training role before, but his work as an #RDC blends well with his social nature.
“I just like talking to anybody. It’s cool to see people from different ships and from different places.”
When he is not at RTC, OS2 goes #fishing as often as he can.
“I picked it up, say around 12 years old. Fishing just gets my mind off everything.”
Rand describes time on the water as a primal experience. He loves the #ocean
“I’m thinking about getting my diving license, so when I retire, I can buy a boat and just go snorkeling and diving around the world.”
