U.S. sailors assigned to the guided missile frigate USS Underwood (FFG 36) and Coast Guardsmen assigned to Law Enforcement Detachment 107 search for contraband from a rigid hull inflatable boat, Aug. 3, 2012, in the Caribbean Sea during Operation Martillo. The sailors and Coast Guardsmen recovered 49 bales of narcotics dumped from a speed boat into the sea after Underwood sighted and pursued the vessel. Operation Martillo is a joint, interagency and multinational collaborative effort to deny transnational criminal organizations air and maritime access to the littoral regions of the Central American isthmus.
