U.S. Coast Guardsmen assigned to Law Enforcement Detachment (LEDET) 107 scan the water for packages of contraband jettisoned by a speed boat fleeing from the guided missile frigate USS Underwood (FFG 36) Aug. 3, 2012, aboard Underwood in the Caribbean Sea during Operation Martillo. Sailors assigned to Underwood and Coast Guardsmen with LEDET-107 recovered 49 bales of narcotics dumped from a speed boat into the sea after Underwood sighted and pursued the vessel. Operation Martillo is a joint, interagency and multinational collaborative effort to deny transnational criminal organizations air and maritime access to the littoral regions of the Central American isthmus.
