The DASC Drills help prepare Marine Air Support Squadron 1 (MASS-1) Marines to operate in a deployed environment. Wise visited the Marines of MASS-1 to discuss the changes happening throughout Marine Corps Aviation. Wise is the Deputy Commandant for Aviation, serving as the principle advisor on all aviation matters and the principle spokesperson of Marine Corps aviation programs, requirements, and strategy throughout the Department of the Navy and the Department of Defense. McCarthy is the commanding officer for Marine Air Control Group 28, a subordinate unit of 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. 2nd MAW is the air combat element of II Marine Expeditionary Force.
