U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Timothy E. Gowen, adjutant general for Maryland, and Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Peter Aylward replace Col. Joseph D. Reale’s shoulder boards during his promotion to Brigadier General at the Maj. Gen. Harry C. Ruhl Armory in Towson, Md., Nov. 7, 2020. Reale, originally from Malden, Mass., is the Deputy Commanding General for Support for the 29th Infantry Division. Reale was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1991 and has been a member of the Maryland National Guard since 1992, starting off in the 175th Infantry Regiment and then the 70th Regiment. He has held many positions from company to strategic level assignments and primary staff positions, including Director J7 for the Maryland Joint Force Headquarters, Commander of 581st Troop Command, Commander of the 291st Digital Liaison Detachment and Commander of 58th Troop Command.
