Cmdr. Michael J. Grande, Medical Service Corps officer assigned to Navy Medicine and Readiness Training Command Bremerton, was recognized by Rear Adm. Timothy Weber, Commander, Naval Medical Forces Pacific and Medical Service Corps director for his work as director for administration from January to July, 2020.
His citation noted that he ‘performed his duties in an exemplary and highly professional manner. An integral leader during the chaotic and dynamic phases of the coronavirus 2019 pandemic response, his forward-leaning leadership contributed to evidenced based screening processes, interim facility and traffic flow modifications, and the establishment of single points of entry.
Agile and adaptive, he provided creative solutions sets to support the command’s evolving mission. His efforts reached beyond the command, impacting the state-wide effort. He, along with his team, worked long hours, executing multiple short fused taskers and full scale inventories to supply critical personal protective equipment instrumental in the sustainment of patient care.
The command remained operational and above the threshold in critical supplies throughout the response phases. His focus on force preservation was vital in the identification of potentially life-threatening complications related to the virus, resulting in expeditiously procured thermometers and pulse oximeters for patients in isolation.
His efforts helped ‘flatten the curve,’ ensuring unhindered high priority mission capabilities for the third largest fleet concentration area.
