Cmdr. Robert N. Uniszkiewicz, Medical Corps officer, assigned to Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Bremerton, was recognized by Rear Adm. Timothy Weber, Commander, Naval Medical Forces Pacific and Medical Service Corps director, for his role as Navy Region Northwest and his command’s COVID-19 Czar from January to June 2020.
His award citation noted that ‘Uniszkiewicz performed his duties in an exemplary and highly professional manner. His resolute leadership and keen focus on readiness resulted in the implementation of a comprehensive coronavirus 2019 pandemic strategy for the initial, sustainment and recovery phases for Navy Region Northwest.
An integral leader during the chaotic and dynamic phases of the Coronavirus 2019 pandemic response, he ensured synchronized communication between the command and fleet assets. He effectively leveraged strong working relationships with Washington State and local public health departments to devise mitigation strategies to help ‘flatten the curve’ and maintain high priority mission capabilities for the third largest fleet concentration area.
As the first continental U.S. ‘hot zone’ location, his forward leaning leadership and vision had enterprise-wide impact and results in innovative policies, operational force testing protocols, and the development of isolation checklists and parameters.
He was a key contributor to the development of ‘mission essential’ worker guidelines, ensuring continuity of operations related to workers safeguarding national strategic weapons.
