Hawaii National Guardsmen assigned to Joint Task Force Medical were visited by Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell at the Provisional Outdoor Screening Triage Facility (POST) located at Ke'ehi Lagoon, Honolulu Hawaii, September 24, 2020. Since April, a small team of Guard medical professionals continue to provide basic medical aid to the homeless population who voluntarily seek refuge.
Army Majors Scott Aihara and John Alamodin along with Spc. Palani Pantohan and Sgt. Brandon Maki welcomed Mayor Kirk Caldwell following his brief news conference with local media. The mayor came to visit and meet the Soldiers that work alongside Honolulu Police Officers. Law enforcement provides security and a presence to ensure public safety for all who reside or work within the POST.
Mayor Caldwell greeted and exchanged conversations with the Guardsmen and expressed gratitude toward the support the city has received from the Hawaii National Guard.
“I just want to say, you guys are awesome,” said Caldwell. “Not only helping here at the POST but helping all over the place. At our emergency management center for the city, our surge testing program and in all that you’re doing throughout our counties and the state. I have so much aloha for you (Hawaii National Guard) being here with us and helping us here get through this pandemic.” (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Sgt. John Schoebel)
