U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Megan Larson, a T700 engine mechanic with Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 36, works on the engines of CH-53E Super Stallions, Aug. 11, 2020, on Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan.
Larson teaches and leads Marines in her MOS. She is responsible for verifying quality maintenance on the engines. If one thing were to be wrong, it could be detrimental, so she has to make sure the Marines understand the importance of attention to detail.
“As a noncommissioned officer in my shop, I'm entrusted to conduct technical training with the Marines pertaining to our Military Occupational Speciality (MOS),” she said. “It is important to me to teach and lead my junior Marines in career progression through observation and mentoring.”
Larson has attended multiple MOS trainings to include a week long General Electric T700-401C Line Maintenance course in Springdale, Ohio, and a Production Control course in Coronado, Calif. On occasion, Larson operates outside the responsibilities of her original MOS and has basic familiarity in other MOS’.
Larson said being in a predominantly male MOS reminds her of growing up back home in San Antonio surrounded by her three brothers.
“Just be confident in yourself,” said Larson, expressing advice to other Marines. “Know that what you’re doing day in and day out makes a difference. Do not let anyone tell you different.”
