PACIFIC OCEAN (February 2020) Lt. Bryan Glock, Weapons Officer (Blue), USS Maine (SSBN 741), from Westminster, Maryland, prepares to launch a test missile from the Ohio-class, ballistic missile submarine as part of Demonstration and Shakedown Operation 30. Demonstration and Shakedown Operations give the U.S. Navy an opportunity to conduct scheduled missile test flights of unarmed, life-extended Trident II (D5LE) missiles to evaluate and demonstrate the readiness of an SSBN's strategic weapon system and crew before operational deployment, following a submarine's engineered refueling overhaul.
