200429-N-HR150-1015 PHILIPPINE SEA (April 29, 2020) - Lt. j.g. Brandon Ratner, from Santa Clarita, California, scans the horizon for surface contacts while operating as the officer of the deck (OOD) in the pilot house of U.S. 7th Fleet flagship USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19). The OOD's responsibilities include overseeing the safe navigation of the ship, supervision of bridge watchstanders, and making reports to the command duty officer or the commanding officer. Blue Ridge is the oldest operational ship in the Navy and, as 7th Fleet command ship, actively works to foster relationships with allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific region.
