The Commander’s Public Service Award was the first military award presented to Ms. Julie Kitka, president of the Alaska Federation of Natives April 16, 2020, at Anchorage, Alaska. The award is given to civilians who are not employed by the Department of the Air Force and who have either aided in realizing specific achievements, major projects, or assisted an Air Force unit to reach a major milestone. Kitka served as an advisor to the Alaskan North American Aerospace Defense Command Region, and Alaskan Command, on behalf of more than one hundred and forty thousand Native people.
