GROTON, Conn. (April 21, 2020) – Senior Chief Petty Officer, Jake Stich, from Louisville, Kentucky, assigned to Naval Submarine School (SUBSCHOOL), prepares to have his blood drawn by Cynthia Ward during a blood drive event onboard Naval Submarine Base New London. Strict social distancing guidelines and proper hygiene were put in place by both SUBSCHOOL and the Red Cross to ensure that safety measures were being taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19. During these uncertain times it remains imperative for the Red Cross to maintain enough blood supplies to ensure a stable supply throughout the pandemic. During the two-day blood drive, more than 88 productive pints of blood were collected, potentially saving 264 lives. (Photo by Alexander Gago)
