Spc. Joshua Meeker, from the 3rd Battalion, 265th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, has been working on one of the collection teams taking samples for residents, at the Orange County Convention Center Community Based Testing site. Outside the Florida Army National Guard, Meeker is a firefighter of 16 years for Palm Coast Florida, so doing a job providing a crucial community benefit is something he’s intrinsically familiar with.
Meeker says he looks forward to serving on any state mission, even if it is far from the typical hurricane relief activities Soldiers usually see on state active duty; the service itself is why he joined.
“The military has the manpower, and the resources to assist the state of Florida in providing the swabs and necessary personnel, so it feels good, to be able to help out the state,” said Meeker. “Honestly, just being able to serve is awesome. I love my community that I serve at, and I love my country. It’s why I joined.” (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Spencer Rhodes)
