Members of the 51st Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Team, Michigan National Guard, perform maintenance on their equipment, Fort Custer Training Center Augusta, Michigan, March 11, 2020. The 22-person team, made up of Michigan Army and Air National Guard members, provide initial assessments of incidents, and assist state emergency management, the state’s Joint Force Headquarters, and other key officials including representatives of federal agencies when called upon. The team’s attire is atypical and with more than 20 real-world missions conducted throughout a year, mixing in with the general population and keeping a low profile is a mission requirement.
