A boat crew travels to the cargo ship Ocean Giant Jan. 22, 2020, near McMurdo Station, Antarctica, in order to ferry passengers from the cargo ship to McMurdo Station. The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star (WAGB-10) created a channel in the ice near McMurdo Station as a part of Operation Deep Freeze – the U.S. military’s contribution to the U.S. Antarctic Program, which is managed by the National Science Foundation.
