    (From left) Brigadier General Ryan P. Heritage, the commanding general of the Marine Corps Western Recruiting Region, presented the Marine Corps Commandant's Trophy to Caleb Ramirez, a Marine Corps Officer Candidate, and Cody Nicholls, the assistant dean of students at the University of Arizona, during the Arizona Cardinals football game in Glendale, Ariz. on December 1, 2019. Ramirez was was the honor graduate of Platoon Leaders Course Combined 20, which is why he was chosen for the prestigious honor. The Platoon Leaders Course Combined is a 10-week training event designed to screen and evaluate potential Marine Corps Officers. Those who successfully complete the period of instruction are commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the United States Marine Corps.
