Phillipe Ritter, son of recently accounted for George L. Ritter, holds his father’s remains during a chain of custody at the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) facility on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, Nov. 19, 2019. Ritter was an Air America pilot flying a C-123 on Dec. 27, 1971 when the aircraft went down for unknown reasons in Laos. The Ritter family honored their father’s work by storing his remains in a authentic sticky rice cooker, like those found in Laos. Ritter was identified and accounted for by DPAA in 2018. DPAA’s mission is to provide the fullest possible accounting of our missing personnel to their families and the nation. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Apryl Hall)
