191111-N-WX378-0065 NEW YORK (Nov. 11, 2019) U.S. Navy Sailors attached to USS Carter Hall (LSD 50) listen to President Donald J. Trump, speak at the Veterans Day opening ceremony at Madison Square Park on Nov. 11, 2019. Trump spoke to the crowd on the 100th Anniversary of World War I and was the first sitting president to attend New York City’s Veterans Day parade. While in port, Sailors and Marines assigned to Carter Hall will host ship tours for the public, pay tribute to veterans of all generations, attend sporting events and march in New York City’s Veterans Day Parade. This year, the Veterans Day celebration will commemorate the centennial of the holiday, established in 1919 as Armistice Day. It commemorated the anniversary of the end of World War I and was officially renamed to Veterans Day in 1954. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Bryan Ilyankoff)
