German Soldier Jon Cook of Jacksonville, Illinois, fires from behind a barrier while one of his comrades, Shawn Lasee of Aurora, Illinois, lies gravely wounded during a reenactment of a battle in the trenches during World War I. Both men played German Army Soldiers in the battle. The reenactment was part of the Illinois State Military Museum's Great War Encampment on Nov. 9, 2019. The museum highlights the history and proud legacy of the Illinois National Guard. (U.S. Army photo by Lt. Col. Brad Leighton, Illinois National Guard Public Affairs.)
