Ed Thompson, deputy commander of Expeditionary Strike Group 7/Task Force 76, conveys the importance of Sasebo capabilities to U.S. Congressional staff members during a ship tour aboard the amphibious transport dock ship USS Green Bay (LPD 20) ) as part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan’s Kakehashi Project. The program is designed to promote a better understanding of Japan with regard to politics, economics, culture, history and foreign policy. Green Bay, part of the Commander, Amphibious Squadron 11, is operating in the Indo-Pacific region to enhance interoperability with partners and serve as a ready-response force for any type of contingency.
