U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Joseph A. Derose and Master at Arms Seaman Steven J. Burbah, close quarter battle team members assigned to Alpha Company, Marine Corps Security Force Kings Bay Battalion, Marine Corps Security Force Regiment, participate in the unknown distance daytime course of fire during a Designated Marksmanship course Oct. 23, 2019, at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, Yorktown, Virginia. The role of a Designated Marksman is to provide precision fire to the unit commander for Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team (FAST) companies and the Recapture Tactics Team. During the course, Marines learn basic designated marksman employment such as security posture, communications, multi-threat engagements, alternate shooting positions, as well as moving target, unknown distance, and limited visibility engagements.
