U.S. Army National Guard Soldiers from Michigan, Virginia, Colorado and New York participated in a Soldier of the Year competition to determine the most proficient and tactically sound member of a military funeral honor guard detail during competition conducted at the D.C. National Guard Armory in Washington, D.C. October 1, 2019. National Guard funeral details conduct over 113 thousand military funerals a year, which makes up 83 percent of the total Army mission.
