U.S. Army Lt. Col. Doug Van Weelden, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade deputy commander of Saranac Lake, N.Y., prepares for a medevac hoist training mission with Valkyrie medevac. The medevac unit operating in Khowst province, Afghanistan, is a compilation of Army National Guard soldiers from Texas and Mississippi. The unit took over operations on Forward Operating Base Salerno in April.
