Col. Daniel Pinnell, commander, 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, describes the progress of the Network Integration Evaluation 12.2 to Lt. Gen. William N. Phillips, the military deputy/director, Army Acquisition Corps of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics and Technology) during his visit and walkthrough of a tactical assembly area in the Fort Bliss, Texas, training area, May 10, 2012. The eight-week evaluation allows the Army to test new technologies, particularly communications technologies, and determine how effective they could be in battle. It puts those technologies directly into the hands of the soldiers who will use them on deployment, to determine just how well they will work in combat situations, or if modifications need to be made.
