A member of the U.S.-led Coalition and a member of a local security force observe the destruction of a former YPG fortification in northern Syria, Sept. 16, 2019 as part of the security mechanism zone agreement. The security mechanism is intended to address Turkey’s security concerns, maintain security in northeast Syria so ISIS cannot reemerge, and allow the Coalition to remain focused on achieving the enduring defeat of ISIS.
