Chess Johnson participates in a track and field practice for the 2012 Warrior Games at the U.S. Air Force Academy April 23, 2012, more than five years after a sniper’s round struck him in the right eye. His current vision is comparable to taking a toilet paper roll and cutting it down to two inches and holding it up in front of one eye while covering the other with a hand. Despite his limited sight, Johnson does not consider himself disabled and has shown talent and enthusiasm for a wide variety of competitive sports.
