Members of the 1st Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade receive their initial fielding of the new Echo Model Apache, replacing the previous generation's Delta Apache helicopter, on Fort Bragg, N.C., Aug. 14, 2019. While not the first in the Army, they are the first on Fort Bragg to receive the new aircraft. The AH-64E Apache helicopter is designed to increase power margins, reliability and lethality to ensure the Apache is a viable combat fighting force in large scale combat operations. The AH-64E Apache helicopter is considered the bridging strategy to the Army's Future Vertical Lift program. The unit currently has Apache aviators in training to fly the new aircraft, and those pilots will soon bring the dynamic capability to the Global Response Force. Equipment modernization is crucial to winning tomorrow's fight, and employing equipment such as the new Apache helicopter is one way the 82nd Airborne Division is leading this effort.
