A group of distinguished guests from the Republic of the Philippines and U.S. render salutes for both nations’ national anthems at a humanitarian civic assistance site in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Republic of the Philippines, April 24, 2012. U.S. Marines and sailors attached to 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, along with their Armed Forces of the Philippines counterparts, spent over a month building new classrooms at a Puerto Princesa school during Balikatan 2012, which is an annual bilateral training exercise designed to build the joint interoperability between Philippine and U.S. military members. In its 28th iteration, BK12 also includes ground military training operations on both Palawan and Luzon provinces and a natural disaster response command post exercise in Luzon province. 1st MAW is part of III Marine Expeditionary Force.
