U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Eric Phillips (right), from the 74th Explosives Ordinance Disposal Battalion, and Philippine Army Staff Sgt. Alex Alcoran (left), EOD Special Forces, run through the training scenario with Philippine Soldiers, April 23, at Fort Magsaysay, Philippines, during the bilateral field training exercise portion of Exercise Balikatan 2012. The scenario entailed receiving a report of suspected improvised explosive devices in a culvert five miles from the compound, and their mission was to disarm the explosives. Balikatan is an annual Republic of the Philippines-U.S. military exercise focusing on field training, humanitarian assistance and a command post exercise. Additionally, it increases our armed forces’ ability to respond quickly and work together efficiently to provide relief and assistance in the event of natural disasters and other crises.
