DEDEDO, Guam (July 12, 2019) Senators from the 35th Guam Legislature view the endangered Serianthes nelsonii tree while receiving a briefing from Dr. Jim McConnell, University of Guam, Guam Plant Extinction Prevention Program, during a site visit at Northwest Field in Dededo, Guam, July 12, 2019. Rear Adm. Shoshana Chatfield, commander of Joint Region Marianas, and a team of Navy and Marine Corps environmental professionals led a senatorial visit to the site of the endangered Serianthes nelsonii tree at Northwest Field. The group received a briefing from Marine Corps Activity Guam (MCAG) Environmental Director Al Borja and MCAG Natural Resources Specialist Lauren Gutierrez, and saw firsthand the military's commitment to environmental stewardship in the preservation of the island's ecosystem.
