Tech. Sgt. John Charles, 113th Wing, District of Columbia National Guard, stands watch at 14th St. and Constitution Ave. NW after the 2019 Independence Day Parade, Washington, D.C. July 4. Charles, a native of Guyana, was attending his first Independence Day Parade as a Capital Guardian. Charles was one of approximately 800 District of Columbia National Guardsmen supporting local law enforcement, public safety and transit agencies during the annual event in the Nation's Capital.
