If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it
probably saved lives, limbs and property. The leaders of the North Carolina National Guard's 690th Brigade Support Battalion use Chuck the Safety Duck, a small rubber duck complete with reflective belt and eye protection, as an innovative way to remind soldiers of the importance of safety during five days of rail operations this June at Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, Yermo Annex, California. The Soldiers of the unit offloaded the 30th ABCT's heavy equipment for their rotation at NTC without injury or loss in temperatures of over 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the face of wind guests of nearly 50 miles per hour in the California desert.
