    Pallbearers carry the casket of Staff Sgt. Al Mampre to a waiting hearse
    following a funeral service on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at St. Luke's Episcopal
    Church in Evanston. Mampre enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served as a
    medic with Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment,
    101st Airborne Division during World War II. Mampre was one of the 'Band of
    Brothers' whose exploits were made into an HBO television series and also a
    book by historian Stephen Ambrose. Mampre died May 31, 2019, in Evanston.
    Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division; Brig. Gen. Kris A. Belanger,
    Commanding General, 85th U.S. Army Reserve Support Command and
    representatives from several police departments took part in the funeral service. Belanger became friends with Mampre after meeting him at a Memorial Day ceremony in 2018.
